CHINA AND BEIJING

Beijing is "home" for the time being ... at least for 2 more years. It's an interesting mix-that of tourist and resident. I consider myself a tourist when I go out to see the things that all tourists should see. So far, I don't imagine that I have seen as much of China as I should have, but I have 2 1/2 more years to explore a bit more of this country and city.

This trip was sort of a last minute journey for me to see friends. I was reluctant because of the cost and length and how many people were going: me, the 2 dear friends and 3 more people I didn’t know.  That, for me, is way too many people. But I forged ahead and decided that I could travel to see them, but there was no real need to stay at the same hotel ... which was a tad on the dumpy side. And the island of Dhiffushi is very small. It was about a 15 minute walk between the hotels. So, the Maldives. Wow... from first glance, I was thinking paradise. Hmmm...not so much. There ARE indeed paradise resorts. Not our island! So my friend was all about seeing the local culture but the local culture included no booze, and lots of dirt and garbage. SRI LANKA, FALL 2016

Sri Lanka was a unique adventure. It was not about the tourism and the racing around to see all that I could see. It was truly a trip about rest, relaxation and reflection. Every morning I took part in Aruveydic wellness treatments and then spent the rest of the day lolling around the beach or taking short excursions from the hotel. KUALA LUMPUR AND PENANG 2011

I went to KL  and Penang in 2011-2012...it was my first official Christmas away from home. I knew I wanted to go east but decided against the typical, expected trip to Thailand. Thailand is on my list and I will get there eventually. KL seemed exciting and mixed in with a resort stay, a perfect mix of city and beach.I got to KL just in time for Christmas. Always interesting to see how other cultures show their Christmas spirit especially if it's not their main holiday. And Christmas in a tropical location adds another interesting element. The first hotel wasn't anything special...comfortable and reasonably priced but the rooms were in need of an update.
